The Southwest conference called...they want their corruption back.

Seriously, want happened to the good ole day when Texas schools spied on each other. When coaches left death threats for recruits who went else wear at the last minute. The days when boosters would only buy the athlete merely to keep them playing for their rivals or the days when financial aid offices forged documents to bolster pell grants. When coaches payed their running backs child support. These sissy-minor violations were never a part of the collge football i grew to love. Lets go back to the days of Luther Cambell and Danny Ford and lets stop punishing schools for undercharging a walk-on athletes meal.

The more serious offense at CU was the over-charging of meal plans at the dorms when the only item in the buffet line worth a damn was the Cap'n Crunch at the cereal station. I have not been able to get the school to admit wrong doing in this regard or self-report to whatever NCAA department in charge of such things. In other matters, why in LeBron James Hummer's name can CU not 'secure' the AA (Acceptable Attendance?) degree that PT Gates needs from his JUCO? As I look back on the spring '07 recruiting luncheon packet, it is becoming clear why Gates' academic profile lacked any actual information. Every other recruit at least managed 'honor roll sophomore year' or some other meaningless acclaim. I'm starting to regret dropping goo in my shorts when Hawkins compared him to Reggie Bush. At least get him on campus and start paying the rent at his 4,000 square foot home before you drop that analogy.

The nasty, brutish, and short tenure of PT Gates reminds me of another great PT and his famous maxim - "There's a sucker born every minute" - which applies to us recruiting service/ranking watchers as much as it did to circus-goers. Marcus Houston is the next Herschel Walker (if Walker transferred to Colo St and sat the bench)...Kelly Baraka is the best running back in the nation (playing for the Grand Rapids Arena practice squad)...Robert Hodge was "the JuCo Mike Vick" (if Mike Vick couldn't outrun Chester McGlockton)...Comparing PT Gates to Reggie Bush at this juncture is like rock critics and their incessant comparisons, and should be taken as such (recall that Jamiroquai was no Stevie Wonder). I'll leave you with a single question: Whither Zimbalist Carter?

Hey bootlegger's boy, don't forget Buster Rhymes firing his Uzi (no, that's not a euphemism) in the Okla athletics dorm parking lot. Or the Runnin' Rebs in a hot-tub with Jimmy "the Fixer." Now, they don't even let you ski for your country.
