Gator AttAK

In the last several years, Florida has become the Notre Dame of the SEC. That is, the program everyone loves to hate. New money can do that. Now, it appears that UF wants to become SEC's Miami/Oklahoma of the 1980's. While the Hurricanes have just suspended 7 players for their opener, the Gators have allowed a guy who beat down a civilian and then fired a Soviet-made assault rifle in the air - "I just wanted to scare him" - back on the team. Coach Urban Meyer's strange logic that the shooter is a senior and needs to get his degree (I think everyone involved with this blog managed to attend class and finish a bachelor's degree without playing on a D-I football team) would make Jimmy Johnson or the Bootlegger's Boy proud. Why so such harm to the program's reputation for a devensive tackle? As UF almnus Mark Nadeau put it, "It's not like he's Percy Harvin."

Honestly, who hasn't fired off the occasional assault rifle along the path of higher education? And really, coach is just looking out for what's best for the student athlete here. I realize stereotyping is wrong, but it seems to me that this young scholar athlete may be from a socio-economic status that would preclude his matriculation with that BA in communications were it not for the financial support of the endowed athletic seat he now occupies.

I can't believe that FSU was not mentioned in this rant. And Timo, while I agree with your assertion that all the bloggers here managed to get their degrees without playing D-1 football, I wonder if the same can be said for firing Soviet-made assault rifles.
By the way, where does one get Soviet-made rifles these days - Herman's Army Surplus and Antiques? Can you get a discount if you buy the German helmet with the spike on top?

I think you can pick one up at your local WalMart. After your $4.00 prescription.
